British American Tobacco South Africa is committed to the socio-economic transformation of South Africa.

Our company transformation is underpinned by the standards, values and principles contained in our Standards of Business Conduct, Business Principles, and Guiding Principles.

We believe that South Africa can achieve an adaptable, sustainable and growing economy if it harnesses the strengths of all its people and communities, and uses diversity as a catalyst to solve social challenges and enhance economic performance.

British American Tobacco South Africa’s approach to Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) includes initiatives in respect of employment equity, skills development, preferential procurement, enterprise development, and corporate social investment.

Empowerment focuses on giving people training, education and opportunities to help them develop. Examples include scholarships and programmes supporting small businesses and promoting entrepreneurship. An example of one of our initiatives is our partnership with the Mandela Rhodes Foundation:

British American Tobacco South Africa Mandela-Rhodes Scholarship

We are a proud sponsor of the prestigious Mandela-Rhodes Scholarship, in partnership with the Mandela-Rhodes Foundation. The Mandela Rhodes scholarships build and enhance leadership excellence in Africa, offering young Africans who exhibit academic prowess as well as broader leadership potential an educational opportunity unique on the continent.
